Man arrested after Redhill child abduction claim

Police investigating the reported abduction of a child in Redhill have arrested a man on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

The arrest of a 26-year-old local man follows a claim that a young boy was taken into a van in Redhill last Thursday (25 August).

But Surrey Police said an extensive investigation had not found evidence to support the story.

They added that they had to act quickly to prevent what was suspected to be a risk to a child’s life.

The victim was said to have been taken against his will but no parent reported a child matching the description as being missing.

In a statement, Surrey Police said that after re-interviewing the man at length, no further information had come to light to confirm the abduction report.

The man has been released on bail.
