Horley Mayor Elected

This week Horley Town Council re-elected Councilor Richard Olliver as Chairman and Town Mayor for 2014-15.

Councillor Mike George was elected as Vice Chairman and Deputy Town Mayor.

Councillor Olliver will continue to support St. Catherine’s Hospice as his main mayoral charity.

Fishing Attack Crawley

Two arrests have been made following an attack on two men whilst they were out fishing in Crawley.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning when the assailants approached the men at Tilgate lake and shot them after a verbal disagreement. Both men received head injuries along with injuries to the arm and hand.

Modestas Kubilius, 23, has been charged with two counts of ABH and possession of an air weapon with intent to cause fear of violence. Gintas Piscelinas, 25, has also been charged with possession of an air weapon with intent to cause fear of violence.

Both men appeared at Crawley Magistrates Court on Monday and are due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on 5 June.

Merstham Regeneration

A major community regeneration project’s taken another step forward after plans were submitted for permission.

Flats, shops, a library and community centre and a supermarket are among the proposals for the Portland Drive area of Merstham.

In December, Surrey County Council approved a partnership with Reigate & Banstead Council and a housing association to bring forward the facelift.
