Rowfant Fire Investigated As Arson

Last month’s fire at the Rowfant fuel depot near Crawley is being investigated as arson.  

The fire seriously damaged a fleet of fuel tankers as well as damaging other vehicles, and items stored at the three other industrial units at the Rowfant Business Centre.  The West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service worked for a number of days to ensure the fire didn’t spread.  No one was injured.  

Sussex Police urges anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious to get in touch by phoning 101 quoting Operation Wadhurst.

Scams Awareness Month: Sharp Increase In Younger Victims

 

West Sussex residents are being called on to take action against scams throughout July, during Scams Awareness Month.  

More than 800 cases of actual and attempted scams have been reported to West Sussex Trading Standards since 1st July last year.  This came at a cost of £383,000 to residents.  An additional 125 doorstep incidents saw residents scammed out of a further £85,000.

 Richard Sargeant, Team Manager at West Sussex Trading Standards said that although the average age of victims in West Sussex is 77, there has been a sharp rise in victims under the age of 25:

 

 

Priory Park in Reigate Splashes Out on New Play Equipment

The Priory Park play area in Reigate opens today.  

After a temporary closure to update the equipment, the play area will also feature a new splash play area.  The area includes new wet pour rubber flooring in two colours to depict sand and water, making the existing ship look close to the beach. New jets spray water at a variety of heights, pressures and patterns.  

The previous playground equipment has been replaced and the sand has been removed because it caused problems with the former water play apparatus.

Update About The Travellers in Caterham

Tandridge District Council has stated that travellers, camped on Town End Recreation Ground in Caterham left the site on Monday evening and have now left the county.  

The Council has started to clear the site of rubbish, and has had to remove the swings in the children’s playground due to damage.  

The Council has also served a “direction to leave” notice on the group camped on Manor Park.

Patients and Visitors To Nominate Outstanding Staff for QVH Awards

The Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead is asking for patients and visitors to nominate staff for an award.  

The hospital is encouraging the public to nominate staff from across the hospital who have shown exceptional care and compassion for its Outstanding Patient Experience Award.  This could be anyone from the person who helped book an appointment through to the nurse, therapist or doctor.  Nominations can be made  online or by calling the corporate affairs team on 01342 414508 to ask for a form.  

The deadline is 31st July and the award ceremony will take place in September.
