A lorry hit the railway bridge at the entrance to the Holmethorpe Industrial Estate on the Redhill and Merstham border on Friday.  

The lorry struck the bridge as it travelled from Frenches Road into Trowers Way. The road was closed over the weekend. It is uncertain when it will re-open.  Access to the Holmethorpe Industrial Estate is past the Limetree School via New Battlebridge Lane and Ormside Way or via Watercolour.

Metrobus have had to divert their 430 and 435 services via Battlebridge Lane in both directions and are unable to serve the bottom of Nutfield Road, Canalside or Trowers Way.

The European election results in the Reigate and Banstead, and Tandridge areas followed the national trend.

The Brexit Party led both areas with 35.6% of the votes in Reigate and Banstead, and 38.7% in Tandridge.  The Liberal Democrats came second in both areas. The Greens were third in Reigate and Banstead. The Conservatives were third in Tandridge just marginally ahead of the Greens in fourth place.

In Crawley The Brexit Party again won the majority with 37.7% of the vote. Labour was in second place in Crawley with 18.8% with the Liberal Democrats in third place.  

These votes were reported to the Regional Returns Officer for the South East Region based in Southampton who verified and tallied the votes. The combined results for the South East meant that the Brexit Party won four European parliamentary seats for the region. The Liberal Democrats won three seats, while the Conservatives, Labour and the Greens have one MEP each.

An 18 year old man from Redhill has been charged with three stalking offences and one firearm offence.

Nicholas Snape was arrested on Friday following a large police presence in the Earlswood area of Redhill.  Unarmed officers were seeking to make the arrest at midday on Friday when the man pointed what appeared to be a firearm in their direction. It is now believed that it was an imitation firearm. Armed officers were called to the scene, assisted by the police helicopter.  The man was located near to his home address and arrested.  

Surrey Police have emphasised that they have zero tolerance when members of the public including police officers are put at risk.

Work to remove the gasholder structure in Oxted is complete.  

The building contractor has moved onto the site; work will begin on the earthworks and remediation in preparation to build over a hundred new apartments.  

The work forms part of Tandridge District Council’s regeneration plans for the area. Coast to Capital, the Local Enterprise Partnership, is supporting the programme with a £1,000,000 funding allocation.

The Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead has been rated ‘good’ by the Care Quality Commission.  

The CQC inspected three core services; surgery for burns and plastics, outpatients and critical care.  Improvements in the critical care unit and the outpatients department mean each individual service at the hospital, as well as the Trust as a whole, are now rated as ‘good’.  

The ratings follow an unannounced inspection of the hospital in January and February this year.
