Money For Crawley Schools

West Sussex is to receive a  boost to education funding.

Around £28 million is going to be injected into the county’s schools.

That will include special school places in Crawley rising to 200.

Henry Smith, MP for Crawley, is calling for particular support to be given to SEND schools.

Award For Council Team

The Land Charges team at Reigate and Banstead council have been commended nationally.

They’ve won awards for best customer satisfaction and team of the year.

The national awards are held every year by Land Data.

A local land charge is a restriction on a particular area of land, to secure payment or limiting the usage of it.

Football Update

Crawley Town lost 1-0 away to MK Dons on Saturday. The Reds slip down to 18th place in League 2.

Merstham remain in third place in the Bostik Premier Division table after winning 1-0 away to Leatherhead.

In the Bostik South East Division, Horsham remain in second place following their 2-1 win at home to Hythe Town.  Three Bridges gained a point in their 1-1 draw away to Ramsgate. East Grinstead lost 2-0 away to Greenwich Borough.

South Park drew 1-1 in their Bostik South Central match at home to FC Romania.

In the Combined Counties Premier Division, Horley Town drew 2-2 at home to Raynes Park Vale.  Redhill drew 3-3 away to Colliers Wood.

Bletchingley Housing Development Award

A building contractor has received an award for a housing development in Bletchingley.  

The gold Secured by Design award was presented to Selsdon Building Contractors for the development of new council houses in Greensand Close.  The award recognises the security standards which have been fundamental to the design and construction of the new homes. These standards reduce the risk of crime such as burglary and the fear of crime being committed.  

Crawley Car Showroom Fire

A fire broke out at a Crawley car showroom on Saturday.  

Assisted by crews from Surrey, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident at the Tesla car showroom in County Oak Way at around 10.30 am.  At its height, eight fire engines assisted in tackling the fire. An aerial ladder platform was also used.

The fire service was on the scene within four minutes and found a rapidly spreading fire.  It was brought under control and the incident was scaled back around midday. Crews managed to contain the damage to the building to 25% with a further 25% being damaged by heat and smoke.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but is not thought to have been caused by Tesla cars, chargers or batteries.
