Football preview

We can look forward to Barnsley playing Crawley tomorrow afternoon in League 1.

In the Ryman League Redhill is up against East Grinstead Town and Tooting and Mitcham United kick off the new season against Merstham football club.

 

Three Bridges FC friendly result

Following the Three Bridges manager Paul Faili’s new role as interim chairman, the team beat Dorking wanderers 1-0 last night.

The goal came from a stunning volley from Abu Touray in the last of their pre-season friendlies.

Faili has taken on the role from Paul Terry who stepped down after a year in the position.

He said that he is massively proud but that it’s not a position he wants permanently, adding that anyone who has the necessary experience and qualifications should come forward for the position.

Three Bridges FC Manager appointed Chairman

Three Bridges FC Manager Paul Faili has been appointed chairman of the team following the stepping down of Paul Terry.

After 19 years at the club, he was appointed at the club’s AGM on Friday and has the position on an interim basis.

He said that he is massively proud but that it’s not a position he wants permanently, adding that anyone who has the necessary experience and qualifications should come forward for the position.

Faili will be working with the same board, with youth manager Kenny Towning as his vice chairman.

Weekend Sport

In Cricket, Robin Peterson kept his nerve to steer Surrey to a three-wicket win over Worcestershire on Saturday and secure a place at the T20 Blast finals day. Set 142 to win, they wobbled to 128-7 before Peterson (24no) won the game with 21 balls left.

And in football, 3 goals in the last 11 minutes sent Crawley Town to a 3-2 defeat against Chelsea under-21s in their final pre-season friendly at the Broadfield Stadium.

Crawley were in control at half-time thanks to a terrific volley from Josh Simpson and Izale McLeod’s low finish.

John Gregory changed the entire team during the second half and The Reds struggled to maintain their superiority and Chelsea struck three times to stun Crawley’s fans.

Meanwhile goals from Cox, Folkes, Rhule and Hutchings assured Merstham of a famous 4 – 1 victory against Grays Athletic at Moatside.  There’s more home action on Tuesday when Merstham face Kingstonian.

Crawley Town Pre Season Match

Last night (Wed 31st July) Crawley Town beat Woking by 2 goals to 1 in their latest pre-season friendly.

The Reds travelled to Kingfield and put on an encouraging display with goals coming from Izale McLeod and Emmett O’Connor.

Crawley’s league one season starts on Saturday August 9th, with an away tie at Barnsley.
