Local Sports Review

In the Premier League, in-form Newcastle defeated Crystal Palace 3 nil at Selhurst Park. It could’ve been much worse if it wasn’t for some great saves from keeper Julian Speroni. Despite the loss, The Eagles remain third from bottom thanks to favourable results from the surrounding premier league strugglers.

Crawley Town pulled off an unlikely victory against League One leaders Leyton Orient earning new manager John Gregory his first victory at the club. After falling behind, the Reds recovered to win 3-1

The only other local match played resulted in plenty of goals as Folkstone Invicta beat Crawley Down Gatwick by 8 goals to nil.

Floodlight failure af Whitstable caused Redhill’s match to be postponed Whitstable while Merstham v Burgess Hill and Three Bridges v Sittingbourne and South Park’s match with Hanworth were called off after late pitch inspections

Local Football Roundup

In the Premier League, Crystal Palace gave Chelsea a real fright at Stamford Bridge.  Despite losing 2 – 1 to the Blues, the Eagles had many chances on goal which stretched keeper Petr Chec and new manager Tony Pulis was buoyed by his team’s efforts.

It was 2 all in league one as Crawley Town managed to claw back  a 2 – 0 deficit with an injury time goal against Preston North End at the Broadfield Stadium.

There were goals galore at Kiln Brow as Redhill played out a thrilling 4 all draw with Eastbourne Town. Merstham managed a 1 all draw at Ramsgate while Three Bridges came out 4 – 3 winners at Chipstead.  South Park beat Croydon 4 – 0 at home but Horley Town had a miserable afternoon at Windsor, losing 5 – 0.
