Crawley Town sign Al-Hussaini

Crawley Town have signed winger Zaid Al-Hussaini on a three-year deal.

The 20-year-old spent time in Derby County’s academy but never featured for the senior side.

Al-Hussaini follows midfielder Sam Matthews and forward Sam Ashford as the League two team’s third signing of the summer.

Crawley Town FC and Merstham FC Team Updates

Midfielder, Sam Matthews has signed a two year contract with Crawley Town.  He will join the club in August once he is released by League 1 Bristol Rovers.  

Full back Lewis Young will remain with Crawley for a further two years.  Lewis Young is the second player this month to sign a new deal after George Francomb also signed up for a two year extension.

Merstham Football Club has appointed Tyler Chambers as the new Under 23s manager.  Tyler joins Merstham from Sutton Common Rovers, where he managed their U23 side for the past three seasons. Tyler joins the Moatsiders alongside his assistant manager, Joe Jackson who takes his first steps into management after a long playing career at Step 4.

Football Update

Despite the cancellation of League 2 and Isthmian League fixtures over the weekend, other local matches went ahead as planned.  

Dorking Wanderers hosted second placed Havant and Waterlooville in their National League South match on Saturday.  Dorking lost 2-1.

Horley Town move up to third place in the Southern Combination Premier Division, after winning 2-1 to Peacehaven at The New Defence.  Lingfield lost 5-1 at home to Lancing.

Elsewhere Redhill’s away match against Banstead was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Decision On Suspension Of Isthmian League Football Matches

The suspension of EFL games due to the spread of the coronavirus includes all matches in League 2 affecting Crawley Town’s games.  The EFL hope to resume matches on 3rd April.

Following this decision, the Isthmian Football League decided to suspend last weekend’s matches until mid week.   The Isthmian Football League’s Board is due to meet this evening to decide when to end the suspension. The meeting will follow an update from the Football Association’s conference call which was due to take place this afternoon. 

Local teams playing in the Isthmian League include Merstham, Horsham, South Park, Three Bridges and East Grinstead Town.
