Crawley taxi driver fined for false council house application

A taxi driver from Crawley’s been fined £1,200 and ordered to pay costs of  £1,232 after being found guilty of trying to falsely obtain a council house.

51-year-old Dilshad Ahmed of Leveret Lane in Langely Green, applied to join the Housing Register and then made a homeless application in 2016.  On the applications, he claimed he couldn’t afford to rent privately or get a mortgage.

An investigation found he’d earned more than £33,000 during a six-month period and was later charged with withholding information on his applications.
