Surrey and Sussex Police Christmas Crackdown On Drink and Drug Driving

A quick drive under the influence of drink or drugs could lead to a life behind bars.

That is the message being issued by Surrey and Sussex Police as they launch their Christmas crackdown on drink and drug drivers.  Dedicated patrols will include stop checks.  Those caught and convicted face a minimum 12 months disqualification, fines of up to £5,000 and up to 6 months imprisonment. If a driver kills someone, they could face life behind bars under new Government proposals.

During the same campaign last year a total of 100 arrests were made in Surrey and 187 were made in Sussex.  The campaign runs until the 1st January.

People in Sussex and Surrey can text officers on 65999 with the details of people they suspect of drink or drug driving.  If you know someone is driving while over the limit or after taking drugs, call 999.
