Fairer funding for Surrey’s roads says Cabinet Member

A new analysis, produced by County Councils Network, shows that councils in London are able to invest over three times the amount in roads compared to shire county authorities in rural areas.

CCN’s figures show that the south east were able to spend just under £29,000 per mile on road repairs last year. In contrast, the 31 councils in London are able to spend over £62,000 per mile.

Matt Furniss, Surrey’s Cabinet Member for Highways has said that the funding from the government doesn’t reflect the wear and tear Surrey face.
