A 23-year-old man was assaulted in a blindside attack in Merstham in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The attack took place on Huddlestone Crescent at around 1am. The victim was talking on the phone when he was attacked from behind, leaving him with cuts and bruises on his head and an injury to his knee.

Police are carrying out enquiries in the area and anyone with information should call 101.
