Pet cat diagnosed with coronavirus

A pet cat has tested positive in the UK for the strain of coronavirus that’s causing the current pandemic.

It is thought the animal which tested positive at a lab in Weybridge, caught Covid 19 from its owner, who also had the virus.

A small number of coronavirus cases in pets have been found in Europe, North America and Asia. Experts however say it’s the first confirmed case of infection in an animal in the UK, but does not mean the disease is being spread to people by their pets.

Both the cat and its owner have now recovered.
