East Grinstead RFC Pays Tribute To Head Coach, Matt Ratana

Players from East Grinstead Rugby Club have paid tribute to Sergeant Matt Ratana who died at the weekend.

Two separate minute silences were held at the East Grinstead Rugby Club where the 54 year old was head coach.  On a statement on their website, the Club’s Chairman and President said Matt was an inspiring and much loved figure at the club and there were no words to describe how they are feeling.

Sergeant Ratana was shot in the chest at Croydon custody centre in the early hours of Friday morning. The suspect had initially been arrested for an alleged drugs offence and possession of ammunition; he remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Police are focusing on four crime scenes; one of the search areas is on Park Road in Banstead.
