Drive safely this Christmas

Firefighters in Horsham have asked all drivers to stay safe on the roads leading up to Christmas after a man was killed on the A24 last Sunday.

Emergency services were called to attend a road traffic collision at Southwater shortly before 1.30pm.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by Sussex Police.

Tips for drivers:

  • Make sure your vehicle is well maintained – make sure to check fuel, lights, oil, water, electrics and tyres are all ok and safe
  • Drive for the conditions – in wet or icy weather you will need to make sure you have extra stopping distance
  • Consider the fatal four, the main reasons for injuries and loss of life in road traffic collisions, these are use of mobiles, non-use of seatbelts, excessive speed and drink/drug driving.

The fire service’s Safe Drive Stay Alive driver awareness programme is available for people to view on their YouTube channel.
