Sussex Police Officers Assaulted on Christmas Day

A number of Sussex police officers were assaulted while on duty on Christmas Day. 

Assaults on officers included spitting, kicking, punching and biting; one officer suffered a dislocated shoulder.  Of the sixteen incidents recorded, twelve occured in West Sussex and four in Brighton and Hove. 

Detective Chief Superintendent Steve Rayland said “ each on29 of these officers has sacrificed spending Christmas with their loved ones to protect the public and catch criminals, only to be on the receiving end of offences”.
