Godstone woman says she’ll lead fight against surgery closure

A patient in Godstone who fears her local surgery could be facing closure has told Susy Radio she is prepared to fight to keep it open.

Following the death of Pondtail Surgery’s partner Dr Khan-Gilbert in August, Surrey Heartlands Clinical Commissioning Group is reviewing the service.

Currently patients are being served from Godstone Green but this is only in the short-term. Two options being considered are reassigning patients to other surgeries or looking for new bidders to run the practice which may mean a new site will need to be found. A consultation was run but Linda Bahariar, who is also a Bletchingley Parish Councillor, says alternative practices being suggested are not suitable.

“You’re talking about a surgery that serves three plus rural villages with no good local transport links and with a lot of elderly and sick people. We may have to fight but I’m prepared to lead that fight if need be.”

The clinical commissioning group says it will take all views into consideration and welcomes feedback.
