The Mayor of Reigate and Banstead remembers HRH Prince Philip

The Mayor of Reigate and Banstead, Councillor Rosemary Absalom said she and colleagues are “extremely saddened” by the news and said the Prince would be remembered for his “tireless service to our nation.”

She added that her thoughts and those of her colleagues are with Her Majesty The Queen, the Royal Family and all those who grieve His Royal Highness’ passing.

Cllr Absalom said: “I and my council colleagues are extremely saddened by the news of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh’s passing. He will be remembered for his tireless service to our nation.

“Beginning with the navy and then, over 60 years, as the longest serving British consort, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip’s service has been both inspirational and exemplary and his loss will be keenly felt by us all.

“This is a particularly sad time and our thoughts are with Her Majesty The Queen, the Royal Family and all those who grieve His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh’s passing.

“I will be sending a letter of condolence to Her Majesty The Queen on behalf of all those who live and work in the Borough of Reigate & Banstead and, as a mark of respect, the Union Flag at the Town Hall is being flown at half-mast until the day after the funeral.”

Crawley Borough Council Deputy Mayor Shahzad Malik said His Royal Highness “dedicated his life to public duty and will be fondly remembered for his charity work and inspiring young people.”
