Man Fined After Fly-tipping Outside Crawley Recycling Centre

A man from Northgate has been fined £4,500 for fly-tipping outside the Crawley Recycling Centre.

Robert Hird was prosecuted by Crawley Borough Council at Crawley Magistrates court after he dumped rubbish from a van outside the centre, and was abusive to council staff.  He was told by staff that the site was not accepting waste from commercial vehicles due to restrictions in place as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.  Mr Hird responded aggressively, emptied a vanload of household waste on the road opposite the entrance and drove off.

He pleaded guilty to fly-tipping and was fined at the magistrates court.  He also has to pay court costs and a victim surcharge.
