Barbecue and Bonfire Warning From Surrey Fire and Rescue Service

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service says it’s attended a large number of fires in the open caused by bonfires and barbecues.

The Service says that vegetation remains dry and asks people to be cautious until we’ve had more rain.  Yesterday a major incident was declared at Hankley Common near Farnham in the West of Surrey as crews continue to contain a large fire in the open.  Residents were asked to close windows and keep pets indoors due to smoke in the area.

Meanwhile Reigate and Banstead and Crawley Borough Councils have stressed that barbecues are not permitted in their open spaces.
