Several rail services were either delayed or suspended yesterday across the southeast following a major signalling fault.

Southern and Thameslink services were affected including the Gatwick Express which was at a complete standstill.

The cause was down to a major power failure in the early hours of the morning.

The signal issue was eventually restored, but this did lead to a knock-on effect of delays which lasted for several hours.
