Sussex Police officer dismissed from the force

A Sussex Police officer has been removed from the force after being found guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

PC Ian Noakes was found guilty during a trial at Brighton Crown Court last month and sentenced to a year in prison. On Monday a misconduct hearing chaired by Sussex Police Chief Constable Jo Shiner dismissed Noakes from the force without notice.

Chief Constable Shiner said his actions amounted to discreditable conduct and fell below the high standards expected of police officers.
She said: “The public expect the very highest standards of behaviour from police officers and rightfully so. Police officers can only police with the consent of our communities and that is on a basis of trust. Officers must act with the utmost honesty and integrity, and abide by the law of this country at all times.

“A conviction for such an offence is discreditable conduct, therefore amounting to gross misconduct. This is a clear case where PC Noakes neither can nor should continue to serve in the office of Constable.”

Music helps people suffering from the effects of Covid

Music is being used to help people suffering from the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.

A new Together with Music Hub course will run at Mickleham Village Hall on Thursdays until 9 September. Participants will use singing and music making to allay feelings of loneliness and isolation as well as easing the respiratory after effects of Covid-19.

The sessions are part-funded by a grant from the Community Fund for Surrey and are open to any residents who could benefit from the course. The NHS Social Prescribing service has assisted with promoting the course to those most in need, and Mole Valley Life Community Transport Service are providing transport to and from the venue.

Leader of Mole Valley District Council, Councillor Stephen Cooksey, said: “This project shows that through partnership working we can help to improve residents’ wellbeing. If you think you might benefit from these sessions, please do get in touch. Or if you know someone who may benefit, let them know about the course.”

The sessions take place from 10.30 – 11.30am. Register to attend or find out more by emailing arts.dev@molevalley.gov.uk or calling 01306 885001.
