Parents and children from two Sussex primary schools have staged a second protest after plans to reopen were halted.

Kingslea and Heron Way schools in Horsham were meant to open part-time yesterday.

But West Sussex County Council stopped it saying, Years 2-5 should not return unless Years 1 and 6 are offered full time provision.

Parents set up a protesting campaign and say “The children were excited by the prospect of returning to class… They have been left confused and upset after what has been an unsettling time.”

Unfortunately anti-social behaviour (ASB) continues in the area marked on this map. People have been misusing the area and congregate to use alcohol and misuse drugs among other things.

This needs to stop so people can enjoy the park area.

In response, a dispersal order has been put in place. It is active from 1800 hours on Friday 26th June through to 1800hrs Sunday 28th June.

This means anyone behaving anti-socially or causing distress in the areas shown on the map will be told to leave and will not be able to return within the 48 hours exclusion.

Along with this there will be heightened Police presence within the area.

Surrey Council can’t force businesses to close to control Covid-19

Surrey’s director of health has admitted they don’t have the power to shut down businesses if there were to be a localised coronavirus outbreak.

Speaking to ITV News, Ruth Hutchinson says they are hoping people adhere to guidance, but if an outbreak were to happen they would have to go elsewhere so rules could be enforced.

It comes as Surrey is one of 11 beacon counties testing local Covid management along with military planners.

Gatwick ground handler to axe jobs

Gatwick airport handling firm Swissport is planning to cut thousands of jobs due to Covid-19.

The company which operates across the UK and Ireland says the effects of coronavirus means it has to reduce its workforce to survive.

It’s not known where the jobs will be lost but initial figures indicate around half of all those employed by the firm could face redundancy, equating to around 4,556 jobs.

Staff were informed about the cuts yesterday morning in a memo seen by Sky News. In it Swissport’s Chief Executive, Jason Holt, says they have been “hard it” by the virus with revenues “almost completely lost”.
He explains, “the unfortunate fact is that there simply aren’t enough aircraft flying for our business to continue running as it did before the Covid-19 outbreak and there won’t be again for some time to come,” adding, “we must adapt to this new reality.”

Mr Holt also points out industry forecasts suggest traffic may not recover to 2019 levels until as late as 2024.

31-year-old Nkrumah McKenzie was arrested in May after large quantities of class A drugs were found during simultaneous raids at properties in Crawley and Hammersmith, along with mobile phones and cash.
Detective Sergeant Peter Yarrow of Sussex Police said; “This successful investigation resulted from close working and sharing of intelligence between the Metropolitan Police and ourselves.

“A ‘County Lines’ drug supply route between London and Crawley has been completely disrupted and we continue to work with colleagues in London on similar operations involving Sussex.”
