Crawley born TV Presenter in Crash

The former BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker is said he is “glad to be alive” after being involved in a collision while cycling.

The 45-year-old Crawley born presenter who now works for Channel 5 shared photos on social media of his injuries, taken from inside an ambulance.

He described himself by saying his “Face is a mess but I don’t think anything is broken.” before adding thanks to the emergency workers who attended the scene.

Merstham woman sentenced

A nurse from Merstham has pleaded guilty to Housing fraud.

46-year-old Nicoleta Mezei formally of Radstock Way was investigated by Reigate and Banstead Council, following a tip off from a concerned neighbour.

Between 2016 and 2018, she sublet her social housing property to others, whilst living elsewhere, gaining at least £6,500 in rental income.

Mezei originally denied the allegations when being interviewed during the fraud investigation, before pleading guilty later.

A 12-month community order of 100 hours unpaid work was sentenced, along with an order to pay one thousand pounds to the council.

Proposed ULEZ Extensions

It’s estimated more than 1.5 million people living outside London could be impacted by the proposed new Ultra Low Emission Zone for the capital.

Data from the DVLA suggests 30% of vehicles in the UK do not come within the emission limits.

The Lib Dems looked at the data covering 10 counties, including Surrey and Sussex and found in Surrey alone more than 157,000 vehicles were at risk of non-compliance.

A spokesperson for the mayor said the city’s “toxic air” was leading to around 4,000 premature deaths a year, with the greatest number of deaths linked to air pollution in the outer boroughs.

Tandridge residents to see rise in Council Tax

Residents in Tandridge will see a rise in their council tax after the district council agreed to the increase.

Those living in a Band D property will have an increase of £6.90.
This Band D figure does not include parish precepts, which will vary across the district.

Surrey County Council agreed to a 2.99% increase while Surrey Police and Crime Commisioner agreed to an increase of over 5%.

This year a Band D property will pay over £2200 in council tax. A 3.28% increase from last year.

‘House Project’ is launched for West Sussex care leavers

A new scheme providing a safe home and support for young people leaving care has been launched by West Sussex County Council.

The first West Sussex House Project will bring together young people up to the age of 25.

A hub has been created in Crawley, where they will be taught life skills, such as cooking and money management, from professionals.

Jacquie Russell, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People says its “great” to see the first group of young people begin their life skills courses.
