Crawley Town FC: Statement on recent match abuse

Crawley Town FC has released a statement following abuse members of the club faced during Saturday’s match against Hartlepool United.

Crawley Town Football Club condemn the abuse suffered by members of club staff before, during and after Saturday’s fixture against Hartlepool United.

Numerous members of the club’s matchday operational team, many of whom are volunteers, suffered from both verbal and physical abuse from fans on Saturday, meaning that the already depleted pool of matchday staff, has sadly got smaller.

The club have made it clear on many occasions the challenges it faces regarding recruitment for matchdays, and after events from Saturday’s game, this challenge has increased. Crawley Town Football Club are incredibly fortunate that individuals give their time, often for free, on a matchday to serve you, the fans, and to be treated with the blatant disrespect they faced on Saturday is unacceptable and won’t be tolerated on any level.

Any individual found to be threatening or abusive to members of staff, or any other individual/ group within the stadium will be immediately ejected and subject to a club banning order.

In accordance with the EFL ‘Enjoy The Match’ campaign, supporters who witness any form of abuse are encouraged to notify a member of the stewarding team.

Boost for local mobile signals

Mobile signals in Crawley could soon be getting better.

It is as the government aims to cut red tape and install more 4G and 5G equipment in street lights, bus shelters and traffic lights.

MP for the town, Henry Smith, has welcomed the news saying it will be a boost for businesses and households and a step towards levelling up.

“One of the core missions of this Government’s Levelling Up agenda is getting everyone, in every corner of the UK, better connected and ending the digital divide.

“These plans, which will slash red tape from the 5G roll out and boost mobile phone connectivity, are another step forward in this mission, improving mobile coverage and for people across the Crawley area.
“I’m committed to levelling up Crawley and this boost for businesses and households takes us another step further in delivering on just that as we build back better.”
