Priory Park’s playground will be refurbished next year.  

Ageing equipment will be replaced in the 11 year old playground which is showing signs of wear and tear.  The well-loved ‘Grey Lady’ ship will be replaced with something more modern but will remain in keeping with the playground’s nautical theme. The refurbishment will include other popular pieces such as the climbing tower and zip wire which are currently out of action.   The project is part of the Council’s rolling programme of investment in its parks and green spaces around the borough.

The refurbishment is due to take place next May and June.

Two prolific burglars were sentenced in court on Tuesday.  

Daniel Carthy from Redhill pleaded guilty to eight counts of burglary and James O’Reilly of no fixed address pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary.  The men were arrested after items found in the vehicle they were travelling in were linked to two burglaries in Surrey. The men were also being charged with conspiracy to commit residential burglary in two other counties.  At Guildford Crown Court on Tuesday, O’Reilly was sentenced to five years imprisonment and Carthy was sentenced to eight years imprisonment.

Detective Constable Pete Osborn of Surrey Police CID said that number plate recognition cameras were instrumental in providing evidence of the vehicle’s movements in and out of Surrey.

Passengers with special needs are now able to access a ‘calming space’ at Gatwick Airport whilst waiting for their flight to depart.

The West Sussex airport is the first in the UK to open a sensory room.

The new space in the North Terminal has been designed for passengers with autism, dementia, cognitive impairment or other special needs who would benefit from a calming space.

The ‘chill-out zone’ includes floor cushions, bean bags and digital display panels.  Meanwhile the ‘interactive zone’ stimulates the senses through tactile panels, textures and a game to improve memory, motor skills and encourages learning.

This sensory room builds upon the Autism Friendly Award the airport received back in 2016.

Witnesses are being sought following reports of a fight outside a butchers in Crawley.

Two men and a woman were involved in an argument which broke out Saturday lunchtime in Broadfield Barton.  During the altercation, one man pulled out a knife and slashed the other man in the arm.

The 40-year-old victim was treated at the scene.

A 35-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman both from Crawley, were arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent and have been released under investigation.

Police believe  all people involved were known to each other.
