A Reigate Building Society Plans Big Merger

An independent building society which has been in Reigate for over 150 years has released details of a planned merger.

Holmesdale Building Society was founded in 1855 and only has one branch, based on Church Street.

It plans to merge with Skipton, the UK’s fourth largest building society.

The merger is expected to go ahead on 1st October, subject to the vote of eligible members in June.

Carlisle 2 – 2 Crawley Town

Crawley Town FC returned from their away game at Carlisle with one point following a 2-all draw.

Karlan Ahearne-Grant scored both goals for the Reds to draw them level after Richie Bennett and Hallam Hope’s goals gave the hosts the advantage either side of half-time.

League Two Crawley face Wycombe Wanderers at the Checkatrade.com Stadium on Wednesday, kick-off 7.45pm.

Opening Of Multi-Million Pound Dorking Development Postponed

There are further delays in the construction of a multi-million pound development in Dorking.

Meadowbank Football Ground will not be opening this week as originally planned.

Dorking Wanderers Football Club was due to play its’ first home game from the ground at the end of March.  The Club has confirmed it will now see out the current season at Westhumble.

The new development will include a 3G floodlit pitch, stands, clubhouse and changing rooms, a new Soft Play facility, café and toilets.

Councillor Charles Yarwood, Deputy Leader for Mole Valley District Council, has not yet released a new opening date for the facilities.

Surrey County Council Presses For Investment In Key Rail Line To London

Surrey County Council has backed a campaign to press for investment on the Brighton mainline rail service.  

The Council has joined the Brighton Mainline Alliance; a group of organisations and businesses spearheaded by the Coast to Capital local enterprise partnership.  

East Croydon station is one of the alliance’s targets for investment to provide two extra platforms. Other targets include an extra platform at Reigate Station to allow Thameslink services to run there.

The Brighton line  passes through East Surrey on its way to London and serves, Salfords, Horley, Redhill and Merstham as well as Gatwick Airport.

Work Begins On New Stadium For Horsham FC

Horsham Football Club has begun work on its new stadium at Hop Oast on the outskirts of the town.  

The Hornets currently share with Lancing FC at the Sussex County Football Association in Culver Road.

In the last month the site has been cleared, a pond extension has been dug and ballstop netting has been installed in the driving range. The next stage is to lay foundations for the car park and to level the ground for both pitches once the local authority has approved the work carried out so far.
