West Sussex Fire Engines To Carry Animal Oxygen Masks

Every fire engine in West Sussex will be equipped with specialist animal oxygen masks on board as standard practice.

Firefighters can use them if they need to help a pet suffering from smoke inhalation.  Two charities, Smokey Paws and the RSPCA have come together to fund the specialist kits with the aim of saving the lives of as many animals as possible.  Smokey Paws raises the money for the life-saving masks through public donations, company sponsorships and fund raising.  The RSPCA is now also helping to fund the kits in an effort to help roll them out across the country.

Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour in Maidenbower

Sussex Police and Crawley Borough Council are joining forces this week to tackle anti-social behaviour in Maidenbower.

From today until Saturday, police and the council’s community wardens will be patrolling the local shops and park, and will be on hand to talk to residents. Street surgeries will be held at Maidenbower Square each weekday from 1.30-2.30 pm to encourage people to come forward and talk about issues they are experiencing.

Crawley Police say this is in response to an increase in reports of anti-social behaviour in the Maidenbower area.

£1.6 million a year spent on maintaining Surrey’s countryside

£1.6 million a year is spent on maintaining Surrey’s countryside.

The 10,000 acres are managed by the local Wildlife Trust which is funded through grants, sponsorships and using the area to generate revenue – volunteers also play an important role in carrying out some of the small jobs.

Figures show it can cost around £2,500 to clear a fallen tree and £35 pounds to empty a dog waste bin.

For information on how you can volunteer, check out the Surrey Wildlife Trust’s website:  http://www.surreywildlifetrust.org/

Petition calls for the rebuilding of two bridges in Ifield

A petition has been delivered to Crawley Town Hall calling for the rebuilding of two wooden bridges in Ifield Brook Meadows after they were taken down 8 years ago.

It’s been organised by The Ifield Society and now has 100 signatures.

It’s hoped the bridges will allow more people to enjoy the Riverbank Walk in the area’s newly protected ‘Local Green Space’
