Lorry driver sentenced for Lingfield woman’s death

A lorry driver has been given a 2-year suspended sentence and disqualified from driving for 5-years following an accident which killed an 82-year-old woman in Lingfield.

66-year-old Paul Russell was legally on the phone using his handsfree at the time when he went through a red light on the A22 Eastbourne Road and hit the Jill Turk’s car.

Judge Roger Chapple, said Russell being on the phone must’ve been an influencing factor in causing the accident.

6 years for man who blew up Oxted cash machine

A man has been jailed for 6 years for using gas canisters to blow open a petrol station cash machine in Old Oxted.

22-year-old Mason Lindsay along with another man tried to rob the ATM on the High Street in March, but fled in a car with fake number plates after they couldn’t get the money out.

A 24-year-old man remains under investigation after being released following his arrest.

Crawley v Brighton & Hove Albion

Crawley Town host recently promoted Brighton and Hove Albion tomorrow (22nd July) in their latest pre-season friendly.

With 2 weeks to go until their first League clash against Port Vale on the 5th August, new Head Coach Harry Kewall says he and the players are learning a lot in their warm-up games and overall he’s happy.

The Reds will be hoping to build on Tuesday’s (18th July) 4-2 win over Dulwich Hamlet.

Kick off is at 3pm.

Parks in Crawley among the best in the UK

3 parks in Crawley have won awards for being among the best in the UK.

Tilgate Park picked up the Green Flag accolade for the 16th year running, while for Goffs Park and Memorial Gardens it was their 10th successful year.

The scheme run by the charity Keep Britain Tidy rewarded the green spaces for their high environmental standards, beautiful maintenance and visitor facilities.
