Deprivation levels in parts of Crawley have risen

Deprivation and crime has increased in some parts of Crawley according to a new report.

The Sussex Uncovered 2 Report found, Broadfield South is now in the top 20 per cent of the most deprived areas of the UK.

While crime deprivation levels are now above the national average in the town putting it in the top 10 per cent of the country – with West Green in Crawley being ranked 2nd in Sussex.

It also shows Crawley has the largest ethnic minority population and the largest proportion of children in the county.

Surrey has one of the highest levels of missing children

Councils in Surrey have among the highest levels of children going missing from care homes in the UK.

Charities ECPAT and Missing People found almost 600 children disappeared last year nationally, while more than 200 are still missing.

The report looks at unaccompanied child asylum seekers and trafficked children and will be presented to parliament shortly.

The Department of Education has said it’s commissioned specialist training for those looking after vulnerable children.

More PCSOs on the streets of Sussex

Sussex Police is recruiting more PCSOs to work alongside regular officers.

32 Police Community Support Officers are to be added to the force – 16 of them will start in June next year.

They’ll be given new powers and skills to help them tackle issues affecting the most vulnerable while working in teams across all districts rather than one neighbourhood.

Hospital Chief Executive Receives CBE

The Chief Executive of Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs East Surrey Hospital, received the CBE from her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace last week.  

Michael Wilson was recognised in the Queen’s 90th Birthday Honours for Services to the NHS.  

Michael has achieved 36 years of dedicated service to the NHS, having joined as a nurse in 1982. He has improved people’s health in a range of roles from ward to Board level during the course of his career.

Crawley Wasps LFC Duo Named in Sussex Squad

Two players from Crawley Wasps Ladies Football Club have been selected for the Sussex FA representative squad.  

Rosanne Fine and Holly Walker are part of a 16 strong squad which will face Kent FA tomorrow.  Wasps’ first-team boss, Paul Walker, said that both players had been highly instrumental to the team’s strong start this season.

Crawley Wasps maintained their unbeaten away record this season at the weekend, beating Watford Development away 3-2 in Sunday’s League Cup match.
