Football Update

Crawley Town slipped to their sixth defeat in the last seven League 2 games losing 3-2 at home to Carlisle United on Saturday.  

In the Bostik Premier Division, Merstham won 4-1 at home to 4th placed Dorking Wanderers.  Merstham are now in 9th place.

Horsham lost 2-0 away to Haywards Heath in the Bostik South East Division.  Three Bridges won 3-0 away to Guernsey and East Grinstead Town lost 3-1 away to Whyteleafe.  In the Bostik South Central Division, South Park gained a much needed 3 points winning 3-1 at home to Molesey.

In the Combined Counties Premier Division Horley won 2-1 away to Badshot Lea.  Redhill’s match away to Raynes Park Vale was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Work To Demolish Oxted Gas Holder To Begin On 2nd January

Work to demolish the gas holder in Oxted will begin in two weeks time on the 2nd of January.  

A crane will arrive on the site at the end of January for workers to access the top of the frame.  The frame of the gas holder will be dismantled piece by piece with the debris contained and collected from within the gas holder.  The demolition is expected to be complete around May next year.

Permission has been granted to build 111 apartments on the site with landscaping and car parking.  The site will be accessed from the entrance on Station Road East opposite Boots.

Defibrillator Stolen From Southgate Bowls Club

A life saving device has been stolen from a local bowls club in Southgate.  

The Automated External Defibrillator went missing earlier this month. AEDs are emergency life saving devices that can be used by anyone to help restart the heart when sudden cardiac arrest strikes.  Sussex Heart Charity which provided the AED along with four others in the Crawley area, is fundraising to replace the stolen device.

Terry Ayres, The Charity’s Chief Executive said that stealing the defibrillator could potentially steal a life.

Crawley Couple Robbed

A Crawley shopkeeper and his wife were attacked and robbed as they returned home from work last Tuesday.  

The man was confronted by intruders at their home in Commonwealth Drive in Crawley at 11 pm on 11th December. He suffered serious injuries, including several broken ribs which required hospital treatment.  His wife was also assaulted and threats were made demanding money. Jewellery, cash and passports were stolen after the burglars ransacked the couple’s home.

There were six or seven men, described as black, wearing joggers, trainers and hooded jackets.

Accident On Clockwise M25 Reigate-Leatherhead

A serious collision took place on Saturday afternoon on the M25.  

The incident happened at 4.15 pm on the clockwise carriageway between junctions 8 at Reigate and 9 at Leatherhead.  It involved a collision between a Volkswagen Passat and a BMW. The driver of the Passat, a man in his 60s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the driver of the BMW was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Anyone who saw the collision or has dashcam footage is asked to contact Surrey Police on 101.
