Fly-tipping increases in Surrey

The amount of illegal rubbish being dumped has increased in Surrey over the past year.

The clear up has cost the Council £1 million over the period.

Homeowners are being reminded it’s their responsibility to dispose of waste responsibly – this includes checking anyone getting rid of it for them is properly registered.

Roads in surrey need £30 million worth of improvement

Roads in Surrey need £30 million  worth of long-term improvement to keep them at their current level – money the Council doesn’t have.

Currently £44 million is spent on repairs each year, including potholes.  However resurfacing and new drainage systems are an extra and therefore need to prioritised.

Earlier this year the Council began a 20 million pounds programme to rebuild 200 miles of pavements in the county after residents said they need better and safer walkways.

Government to deciede if Southern Rail has breached operating rules

It’s going to be decided next week if Southern Rail has breached it’s operating rules by cancelling too many trains.

Owner Govia Thameslink Railway says the 10 thousand cancellations between the end of April and late July were down to unofficial industrial action.

The company could face serious penalties if it’s found a lot of the disruption is due to poor management by The Department of Transport.

Man cautioned after sexual assault

A man’s been cautioned after sexually assaulting a woman at a petrol station in Crawley.

It happen on the 22nd of October at the Premier filling station in Woodfield Road, Northgate when a 27 year old woman was touched on her upper body and had indecent remarks made to her.

Police said the 40 year old man admitted the offence when arrested and was let off with a caution after apologising to the woman.
