Horse Hill Protest

A peaceful protest took place at Horse Hill near Gatwick on Friday to oppose fossil fuel extraction at the site.

Protesters walked to the site entrance and were joined by Keith Taylor, Member of the European Parliament for Surrey and by Natalie Bennett, leader of the Green Party.

Extended flow testing on an exploration well is expected to take place this week. Frack Free Surrey has planned a further protest for Saturday.

Sports Update

Crawley Town FC surrendered a half time lead away to Accrington Stanley on a dramatic afternoon at the Wham Stadium. Accrington levelled early in the second half before a brawl which saw Shay McCartan and the Reds’ Simon Walton sent off alongside Accrington’s substitute goalkeeper, Jason Mooney. Stanley then took control, scoring three goals in the last 18 minutes. The final score was Accrington Stanley 4 Crawley Town 1.

In the Ryman League Premier Division, Merstham won 6 1 at home to VCD Athletic taking them to 13th place. In the Ryman League South, South Park lost 4 1 away to Tooting and Mitcham. East Grinstead Town’s home match against Chipstead was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and it was the same problem for Three Bridges’ home match against Walton Casuals.

Elsewhere Redhill lost 3 – 2 away to Windsor FC.

Fire And Rescue Films

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has launched the first in a series of new films which aims to showcase its broader role in improving the health and wellbeing of local communities.

The new three minute film highlights how the Service’s Home Safety Visits are helping older residents in West Sussex to remain living safely and independently in their own homes.

Serious Accident in Oxted

Emergency services attended a serious road collision on Titsey Road in Oxted on Wednesday (10th February) afternoon.

Another driver contacted Surrey Police when they found a silver car which had left the road and collided with a tree.

The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was taken to hospital by air ambulance.
