Dorking Burglary Charges

Two men have been charged following a burglary in Dorking earlier this year.

Police were called to Denbies Wine Estate on Thursday, 16 July after reports of a break-in.

A large quantity of alcohol was stolen during the robbery which was recovered by officers later the same day.

Stephen Paul Meechan of Carshalton and Lee Panners from Tadworth were charged with burglary.

They’re both due to appear at South East Surrey Magistrates Court in Redhill on Monday, 11 January.

Sussex Drink Drive Crackdown

More than 100 motorists have been arrested in Sussex in the Christmas 2015 crackdown on drink and drug-driving.

Operation Dragonfly was launched at the beginning of the month.

Among those charged is James Smoothy, a British Transport Police officer based at Gatwick Airport.

He was arrested in Copthorne Common Road, Copthorne, at 2.30am last Tuesday (15 December) and charged with having 98 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath in his system. The legal limit is 35.

He’s due to appear before Crawley Magistrates on 8 January.

Community projects in Surrey awarded funds

Six schemes in Surrey have been awarded money to ensure they continue to provide a long-term benefit to their communities.

Surrey leader David Hodge set up a Community Improvements Fund three years ago and this latest group of community projects have received over £150,000 between them.

The successful applicants include Old Reigations Rugby Trust which has received £20,000 to assist in the creation of new rugby pitches, and Tandridge Leisure Trust has been awarded £30,000 for the refurbishment of the swimming pool.

Horse missing from Tandridge has been found

A horse thought to have been stolen from Tandridge has been found.

3 year-old Tempranillo was believed to have been taken overnight Tuesday 8th into Wednesday 9th December.

The horse has been found alive in a ditch nearby although it requires veterinary care.

Police are no longer treating this incident as an act of theft.

Reigate Bank Robber Jailed

A robber who targeted banks in Reigate and Guildford has been handed a prison sentence.

Paul Williams was known as the ‘straw hat man’ because of clothing worn during the first robbery.  It was this description which brought forward a number of witnesses.

Williams pleaded guilty to the robbery of Lloyds Bank in Reigate High Street and attempted robbery of Lloyds Bank in Merrow earlier this year.

He was sentenced on Monday to 34 months behind bars.
