Off-duty Firefighter helps to save footballer in Crawley

An off-duty firefighter from East Grinstead has helped to save a footballer’s life.

25 year-old Michael Gaunt, who plays for Forest Row, performed life-saving CPR on an opponent from Stone FC during a local league football game in Crawley.

The player from Stone FC collapsed from a cardiac arrest on the pitch.

Gaunt continued CPR for 25 minutes until the paramedics arrived.

He is now set to receive a special commendation from West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service in recognition of his actions.

Football Update

Crawley Town moved off the bottom of League despite another loss at Yeovil Town on Saturday afternoon. Despite taking the lead in the first half through an Izale McLeod goal, the Reds succumbed 2 -1 and remain on 27 points – 4 from safety.

And there were no wins for our local sides in the Ryman League. Redhill lost 1 – 0 at home to Whyteleafe, while South Park lost 2 – 0 at Hythe. Merstham and Herne Bay shared the points in a goalless match, East Grinstead and Ramsgate scored one apiece while Three Bridges managed 2 away goals to draw with Hastings United.

Dorking Fraud Arrest

A man’s been arrested in connection with a fraud against a man in his late 80s from Dorking.

Last Tuesday (3 February) the victim received a phone-call from a man posing as a police officer who asked the victim to call his bank following fraudulent activity on his account.

By leaving the phone line open, the same man was then able to pretend he was a bank clerk and requested the victim’s pin numbers before asking him to put his bank cards in an envelope for a courier to collect.

A short time later a taxi driver arrived to collect the envelope from the victim’s home address.

A man in his 20s was arrested in Fulham and has been released on bail until Wednesday, 18 March while the investigation continues.

Kingswood Robbery

A young woman was the victim of a robbery in Kingswood late last Friday evening (Feb 6th)

The victim noticed she was being followed before a man approached her and produced a knife, demanding money.

She handed over cash and noticed a car had pulled up beside her. The man got into the vehicle which then drove off in the direction of Epsom Downs.

The car’s described as a small, white, four door hatchback and was being driven by another person.

The man is described as white, in his early 20s and around 6ft in height. He was wearing a blue hooded top and spoke with a London accent.
