Merstham Alcohol Thief Gets Six Months Behind Bars

A man from Merstham has been sentenced to six months in prison for stealing a large quantity of alcohol from the Toby Carvery in Redhill.  Thirty two year old Shane O’Doherty pleaded guilty to the offence at Guildford Magistrates Court last week.

O’Doherty had been seen hanging around the cellar at the restaurant on Saturday 21st January.  He returned the following day, entered the cellar, and filled up a carrier bag with a number of spirits.

Last Tuesday, staff called police after he was again seen at the carvery, drinking at the bar.  He was then arrested on suspicion of burglary and was subsequently charged.
