Increase In Measles Cases In The South East

Data published by Public Health England shows the South East region as having the second highest number of confirmed cases of measles in the UK; second to London.

Between 1st January and 13th August this year there have been 828 laboratory confirmed cases in England; 169 of those were in the South East.  Young people over the age of 15 and adults who missed out on the MMR vaccine when they were younger have been particularly affected.

The increase in measles circulation is mainly associated with travel to and from Europe, particularly in Romania and Italy, where there are large ongoing measles outbreaks.
