Police appeal for witnesses to M25 climate change protests

Surrey Police are appealing for witnesses following Climate change protests that caused hours of delays for motorists on Tuesday.

The activist group, ‘Insulate Britain’, blocked five junctions on the M25 including junction 6 for Godstone.

Over 40 people were arrested.

Detective Inspector Chris Friday said: “Protestors ignored police requests to move on, so we took robust action to enable the motorway to be reopened and to remove those causing obstructions.

“A number of people were taken into custody and enquiries are progressing.

“We would also like to thank all those motorists who got caught up in the delays while we dealt with the incident to ensure it was brought to a safe and satisfactory conclusion.”

‘Insulate Britain’ tweeted that they were “disrupting the M25” to “demand the government insulate Britain”.

Enquiries are still on-going and police urge anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward in the investigation.
