Surgeons At Queen Victoria Hospital Support Changes To Firework Packaging

Plastic surgeons at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead are supporting a campaign to change the packaging of fireworks.

A number of patients from across the South East of England injured by fireworks, have required reconstructive surgery from specialist surgeons at the Hospital.  The Queen Victoria Hospital is a leading specialist centre for reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation.

The surgeons are lending their support to the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons’ campaign calling on the government to include mandatory warning notices on all fireworks packaging, similar to those found on cigarette packets. They hope that this will reduce the number of people requiring reconstructive surgery, primarily to their hands and face after misusing sparklers or fireworks.

Landlord From Redhill Fined Over £6,000

A landlord from Redhill has been fined over £6,000.

Last Wednesday at Guildford Magistrates’ Court, Murtha Kehoe pleaded guilty to owning and managing an unlicensed house in multiple occupation since May 2016.  Mr Kehoe had not submitted another licence application after the original licence expired. He was fined £5,000 as well as the Council’s legal costs of £1,000, and £120 to the victim support fund.

The semi detached property in Trindles Road in South Nutfield has six bedsit rooms and a one bedroomed flat. The condition of the property deteriorated and despite improvement notices issued by the council, only minimal improvements were carried out.  Council officers concluded the property was not suitable to be occupied by six people; the property was in a poor state of repair and facilities provided were inadequate.
