A bin storage area near to the Tesco Express store on Merstham’s Watercolour Estate was on fire on Thursday night, leading to the evacuation of nearby flats.
Local residents reported that flats next to the bin store had cracks on their windows from the heat.

Two men have been arrested following an aggravated burglary in Reigate on Thursday night.
Police were called to Alexander Road following reports that two men had smashed windows at the front of a property before gaining access via the rear of the premises. The occupants were not injured but were left extremely shaken. Two weapons were seized from the scene and police are carrying out forensics at the property.
Police believe this to be an isolated incident.
A 17-year-old teenage boxer has died in a crash in Nutfield.
Thomas Doherty, was involved in an accident on Coopers Hill Road on Monday (9th October) evening.
‘Tomboy’ as he was known, went to the Frank Bruno Boxing Academy and recently won the Amateur Boxing Finals.
Crawley Town’s coach Harry Kewell says tomorrow’s game against Grimsby will be tough – but he is confident in their ability.
They will be without Lewis Young and Dean Cox who are both out with injuries, and are still waiting on whether Thomas Verheydt will be fit to play.

Hundreds of fish have died in a suspected pollution incident near Horley.
Reports of a strong smell of sewage from the River Mole was reported to the Environment Agency on Wednesday.
Water quality has since improved and officers are investigating the cause.
