Food warehouse moves out of Harlequin Theatre

For more than four months the Harlequin Theatre in Redhill had a new role as the borough’s Community Support Centre. With the easing of lockdown restrictions, the theatre is no longer required as a food distribution warehouse and the service it provided has been moved to other local premises.

Whilst carrying out this important role during Covid-19, over 48,000 grocery items were delivered from the Harlequin Theatre to local food banks and over 2,000 emergency food boxes were packed and delivered.  The kitchens were also used to prepare and deliver over 7,000 hot meals.

It formed a vital part of the Council’s emergency food response for residents who were at high risk and needed to stay at home.

The Council is working with local partners and volunteers to make sure vulnerable and high-risk residents continue to receive the support they need and access the benefits they are entitled to. The online directory on the Council website https://www.reigate-banstead.gov.uk/ineedhelp brings together the help available across the borough.

Coronavirus rises in some areas of Surrey

Coronavirus cases have increased in some areas of Surrey.

While overall cases remain comparatively low, residents are being reminded not be complacent and continue following advice on stopping the spread.

Elmbridge is one area that’s seen a slight increase in cases, although the council says it’s a long way off a local lockdown.

It comes as the Railway pub in East Grinstead has closed for cleaning after a customer tested positive for the virus.

Ruth Hutchinson, Surrey’s Director of Public Health said:
“Surrey residents have worked alongside us over the past few months to bring levels of Coronavirus down, and the overwhelming majority have listened to our advice and followed public health guidelines to help keep Surrey safe.

“We are continually monitoring the data across the county, and we now need to call on residents in Elmbridge to further support us in reducing the spread of the virus.

“Surrey still has comparatively low numbers of Coronavirus infections, but we can’t be complacent. Everyone in Surrey has a role to play in slowing the spread – by keeping their distance and limiting contact with people outside their household, not meeting in groups of any larger than 6 people outdoors, washing their hands and wearing face coverings.

“If you have Coronavirus symptoms then you should self-isolate for 10 days from the onset of your symptoms, and book a test.
“We are still a long way from a local lockdown, if we all follow guidelines now, we can avoid this happening and keep Elmbridge Borough open.”

If you have Coronavirus symptoms – a persistent cough, high fever, or a change in smell or taste – then you should book a test by calling 119 or visiting www.nhs.uk/coronavirus. Slots are made available the evening before for morning appointments, and in the morning for afternoon appointments.

Residents are being assured that a local lockdown is not currently being considered and there are no plans to close premises while numbers remain relatively low. The situation will be reviewed on a daily basis.
