Crawley Man Jailed for Drugs Offences

A 20-year-old man from Crawley has been jailed for thirty months for a number of drug offences.

Ashhaq Khan, of Grace Road, Crawley appeared at Hove Crown Court after pleading guilty to offences including possession with intent to supply class A drugs (cocaine) and possession of class B drugs (cannabis).

Tadworth Closure Order

A closure order’s been obtained on a property in Tadworth after reports of anti-social behaviour.

The order to close 48 Homefield Gardens was granted on Monday (11 May) at Redhill Magistrates Court.

The property has been boarded up as a result of the notification with notices informing the public it is closed to protect the neighbourhood from future acts of anti-social behaviour.  It will be sealed for a three month period providing respite for the community.

The landlord – Raven Housing Trust – is in the process of repossessing the property and if successful the tenant will be permanently excluded from the property.

Anyone seen entering the property during the closure period will be arrested and could be fined or jailed for breaching the order.

Crawley Employment

There’s good news for employment figures in Crawley.

New figures out this week show that there are now 1712 fewer people in the town claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance compared to 2010.

This represents a 64 per cent drop.

Crawley Attempted Robbery

A schoolgirl managed to fight off two would-be robbers in Crawley on Wednesday morning (13th May)

The 16-year-old girl was walking to school through the alleyway connecting Lavant Close and Gossops Drive at about 7.20am.

Once she reached the end of the alleyway she was pushed to the floor and two men demanded her phone.

The victim managed to keep hold of her phone and fought off the suspects. She then ran off.

One suspect is described as white, aged in his early 20s, of skinny build and was wearing a red beanie style hat, a black hoody and black Nike tracksuit bottoms.

The other suspect is described as skinny and was wearing a short sleeved black t-shirt.

Iron Horse redevelopment in Merstham takes a step forward

The regeneration of Merstham has taken a step forward.

Work on the Iron Horse site is due to begin next month.

The project is a collaboration between Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, Surrey County Council and Raven Housing Trust.

Principal Contractor W. Stirland will construct a three-storey building on the former Iron Horse public house site.

It will consist of four retail units and ten flats; and is scheduled for completion by Spring 2016.

Meanwhile work to regenerate community facilities on the Triangle Site is due to get underway later this month.
