East Grinstead Assault

A man suffered a broken cheek bone when he was assaulted while walking home from a New Year’s Party in East Grinstead.

He was attacked in Dunnings Road close to 1am on New Year’s Day.

The victim, aged 54, was taken to to hospital and had to undergo keyhole surgery to repair the damage.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call 101 quoting serial 1625 of 8/1. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Crawley Man Jailed

A Crawley man’s been jailed for seven years for sexual offences against a small girl.

Kevin Stevens was found guilty last Tuesday (20 January) at Lewes Crown Court on four counts involving the child.

She was aged between 4 and 6 years old at the time.

He was also served with a Sexual Offence Prevention Order to last until further notice, severely restricting his access to children, and will be a registered sex offender for life.

County Council votes to oppose expansion at Gatwick

Gatwick Airport anti-expansion protesters got a boost yesterday after West Sussex County Council agreed it would oppose a second runway.

Pieter Montyn, West Sussex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said ‘[it] is an extremely emotive subject’.

The primary purpose of yesterday’s meeting was to agree an official response to the public consultation.

Following approval of a 20 page document, the County Council held a vote to determine it’s position.

Via a majority vote it was agreed the County Council would oppose expansion at the airport.

Jackknifed lorry closes clockwise M25

Drivers had a lucky escape yesterday after a lorry crashed through the central reservation of the M25 and jackknifed.

The incident occurred just before 10 o’clock in the morning.

The lorry was also in collision with a van. Neither driver required hospital treatment.

A fuel spillage meant lane closures whilst the surface was assessed.

The clockwise carriage was closed completely for about an hour between J5 M26 and J6 Godstone to enable emergency services to deal with the incident.

Lane closures were also put in place anticlockwise for repairs to the concrete central reservation which is unlikely to finish setting until the weekend.

East Grinstead Accident

A woman suffered serious head injuries following a collision in a supermarket car park in East Grinstead last Thursday (15 January) lunchtime.

The 77 year old from Turners hill was in collision with a Toyota Rav 4 in the Waitrose Car Park in West Street.

She was taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting.

The driver of the car – an 82 year old woman – was not injured.
