Crawley Town FC drop out of Sussex Senior Cup

Crawley Town will not be taking part in this season’s Sussex Senior Cup.

The club says they have made the decision due to the increased amount of midweek fixtures coupled with the financial implications of hosting further games at their stadium during the coronavirus pandemic.

Advisor to the Chairman Erdem Konyar said: “This season is a first with all the new obstacles we are facing and to subsequently stay afloat. The Senior Cup, unfortunately, in this current climate would be a further burden on the team and our finances.”
The Reds continue their League two campaign tomorrow when they travel to Boundary Park for their game against Oldham Athletic.

New support homes opened for people with learning disabilities

Nine new support homes have opened in Redhill to give people with learning disabilities and autism a house they can call their own.

The specially designed properties feature assistance devices such as Amazon Alexa and support staff on hand to help if needed.

The development is part of a Surrey County council project to increase the number of people with autism and learning disabilities who are living in residential care by 40 or 50% in the next five years.

Sinead Mooney, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults and Public Health, said:
“Everyone already seems so settled and happy in their new homes, which is great to see. The homes and the environment, including the garden, will encourage independent living.
“When I get the opportunity to come out and see great providers, such as Active Prospects, it becomes a lot more real for us, Surrey County Council, with our ambitious supported housing scheme plans.

“All young people relish opportunities to achieve their goals and take on responsibilities – with the right level of support that can be possible for everyone and that’s what we’re seeking to achieve.
“As a council, we’re changing what we do and how services are delivered to make sure we reflect the ways our residents live. Residents who need our help will be supported to live as independently as they can, for as long as they can, in their communities.”

Coronavirus cases rise in Surrey

As the coronavirus official death toll figures reach nearly forty-two thousand across the country, data released on Sunday show another seventeen cases were recorded in surrey over the previous 24 hours.

Reigate and Banstead currently have 887 cases, whereas Tandridge is 377.

Yesterday the Health Secretary Matt Hancock said there was a danger the numbers could “shoot through the roof” unless effective action was taken to halt the spread of the virus. His warning came as the Government announced anyone in England who refuses an order to self-isolate could face a fine of up to £10,000.
