Serious Collision in Reigate

Emergency services were called to a serious collision in Reigate yesterday morning. The incident between a lorry and an ambulance transport minibus, occurred on the A217 Reigate Hill.  The lorry driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to St George’s Hospital.  The driver of the ambulance suffered back pain, and a patient in the ambulance had a minor arm injury.  

A number of roads were closed in the area.  

Anyone who saw the collision should call Surrey Police on 101, quoting incident reference P16209807.

West Sussex Firefighters to Respond to Medical Incidents

West Sussex firefighters will respond to emergency medical calls as part of a pilot starting next month.  

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is working in partnership with South East Coast Ambulance Service to initially respond to Red 1 calls where there is an immediate threat to life.  Calls will be assigned to duty fire and rescue staff according to their location, availability and severity of the medical incident. Their role is to provide emergency lifesaving medical intervention until appropriate ambulance service resources arrive.

Fire crews will not be involved in the transport of patients.

Every co-responding call attended, will be logged and analysed during the pilot.

Council Tax Phone Scam

Tandridge District Council has warned residents about a council tax scam which continues to operate in the area.  Residents are being called by someone claiming to be able to reduce their council tax band and get them a refund if they pay a fee.  They are then asked for their bank details.  

Tandridge District Council has advised that it will never contact people to ask for bank or other personal details.

Football Roundup

Crawley Town suffered their third successive defeat in League 2 on Saturday, losing 2-1 away to Stevenage.  

In the Ryman Premier League, Merstham won 6-1 at home to Grays. Horsham are in 13th place in the Ryman South League, after winning 3-1 at home to Chipstead.  One place below them, Three Bridges also gained three points winning 2-1 in their home match against Molesey.  South Park lost 3-4 at home to Tooting and Mitcham United.  East Grinstead enjoyed their first win of the season;  the Wasps came from 2 nil down to win 3-2 at Chatham.

Elsewhere, Horley Town are through to the next round of the FA Vase after winning 4-2 at home to Hassocks FC.

Redhill are out of the FA Vase, losing 2-1 to Deal Town in the first qualifying round.  The fixture was a home game for Redhill but was hosted by Deal as the pitch at Kiln Brow isn’t match ready due to work that has taken place at the ground over the summer.

Attempted Burglary in Oxted

An attempted burglary has taken place at a residential address in Woodhurst Lane in Oxted.  The incident took place last Tuesday lunchtime when the occupant of the house noticed a figure walking towards one of the cars on the drive.  A second witness also saw a man in the porch who appeared to be carrying garden shears.  When confronted, the intruder claimed to be carrying out work on the house.  He left and the shears were later located in the dustbin near to the property.

The man is described as white, around 5ft 8 – 5ft 10, of slim build and in his late 20s to early 30s. He had light brown, almost shaved hair with some stubble. He was wearing a light blue short sleeved t-shirt with vertical stripes, dark blue shorts and white trainers.
