Man dies in accident in Redhill town centre

A man in his 40s has died in Redhill after hitting parked cars and then a lorry.

It happened yesterday morning around 10am in Marketfield Way car park, when his vehicle crossed into the road and collided with the HGV.

The incident was attended by the air ambulance and emergency services while routes remained closed until the afternoon.

Proper food waste disposal could save £3 million a year

More than £3 million a year could be saved if Surrey residents properly disposed of their food waste claim the council.

If put in the right bin it can then be used to generate green electricity and make fertiliser through anaerobic digestion.

They’re urging people to use their caddy and plastic bags or liners which are collected on the same day as their rubbish or recycling.

Authority in charge of healthcare in Crawley put under ‘special measures’

The authority running health services in Crawley has been put in ‘special measures’.

An investigation has been launched by the NHS after Crawley Clinical Commissioning Group was branded ‘inadequate’ financially for being more than £5 million in debt, while last week its chief clinical officer Dr Amit Bhargava resigned.

The group is responsible for planning, buying and monitoring healthcare in the region.

Dr Laura Hill the acting accountable officer at the group said they’re “facing significant pressures” as “people live with more complex conditions for longer” but “ a robust and ambitious” Financial Recovery Plan was underway.

Lorry driver sentenced for Lingfield woman’s death

A lorry driver has been given a 2-year suspended sentence and disqualified from driving for 5-years following an accident which killed an 82-year-old woman in Lingfield.

66-year-old Paul Russell was legally on the phone using his handsfree at the time when he went through a red light on the A22 Eastbourne Road and hit the Jill Turk’s car.

Judge Roger Chapple, said Russell being on the phone must’ve been an influencing factor in causing the accident.
