Surrey Cricketers Injured

Surrey’s T20 Blast game against Sussex was abandoned yesterday after Rory Burns and Moises Henriques collided on the field and were taken to hospital.
They needed on-pitch treatment at Arundel after trying to take a catch.

Three ambulances arrived on the outfield shortly after the collision and both players were taken away in the emergency vehicles about 45 minutes later.

Surrey tweeted later that Henriques had broken his jaw in three places and needed surgery, while Burns required stitches to head and facial injuries.

Umpires Jeremy Lloyds and Alex Wharf halted play following the incident in the 19th over of Sussex’s.

Crawley Town News

Former Crawley Town captain Josh Simpson has turned down the offer of a new contract from the League Two club.

The 28-year-old midfielder scored 14 goals in 165 appearances after joining the Reds from Peterborough in 2010.

Meanwhile Crawley have appointed former midfielder Jimmy Dack as their new assistant manager.

He joins the Reds after leaving Newport County and will now work alongside Mark Yates who was appointed Crawley manager last month on a two-year deal.

Football: Reds Relegated; Merstham Promoted

After three years in the third tier of football, Crawley Town have been relegated to League Two.

They lost at home to Coventry CIty by 2 goals to 1.  The Reds had taken the lead in the 47th minute through a header by Pogba.

However two goals in the last 15 minutes by the visitors put an end to their hopes of taking three points from the must-win game.

In contrast there was good news for Merstham FC who beat Folkstone Invicta away by three goals to nil to win the Ryman League Division One South Play-off final and promotion to the Ryman Premier League.

Crawley Town have one more chance to secure their League One status in their final match against Coventry City at home on Sunday.

3 points for the Reds would mean that only a Notts County victory could condemn them to the drop on goal difference.

Manager Dean Saunders is encouraging all fans to email their support before the game and has promised that he’d post the messages on the dressing room wall.

The email address is feedback@crawleytownfc.com

The match kicks off at 12:15 at the Broadfield Stadium

Football Update

Crawley Town face relegation after conceding two goals in the final three minutes in a dramatic 4-3 defeat at Peterborough.
The Reds are now in the League One relegation zone on goal difference with just one game left.

And in the Ryman League, it was a good afternoon for Merstham who won 3 – 1 at home to Sittingbourne and even better for Redhill who beat South Park in their away match by a similar margin. Three Bridges also took all the points in their 3 – 2 home win against Carshalton Athletic while East Grinstead Town had the only local disappointment of the weekend losing 2 – 1 at Whitstable Town.
