Listen to the ‘Reigate & Banstead Writes 2019’ winning stories

Listen again to the three winning entries from this year’s ‘Reigate & Banstead Writes’ story-writing competition for local school pupils in years 5 to 9 as featured on David Jay’s Afternoon Stroll show on Susy Radio.

First place went to Katy Adnyana in Year 7 at The Warwick School, Redhill, for her story ‘The Black Knight of Reigate Castle’ read by Charlotte Jones.

Second was Jennifer Callaghan in Year 7 at St. Bede’s School, Redhill, for her story ‘Superdog Becomes Mayor’, read by Charlotte Jones and David Jay.

Third was Orla McNally in Year 6 at The Priory School in Reigate, for her story ‘The Ghosts of Priory Past’, read by David Jay.

The competition is managed by Kay Hymas, Librarian at the Warwick School, who came in a while ago to the Afternoon Stroll to talk about the launch of the competition – Reigate & Banstead Writes launch.

The Afternoon Stroll Cricket Roundup: Week four

David Jay’s weekly cricket roundup includes news of the massive local derby in the Surrey Slam between South Nutfield and Outwood – both of whom are going well in their leagues.

Don’t forget to tune in between 7 and 9pm on Thursday 6th June for ‘On the Front Foot’ when David Jay and Tim Bowling will be welcoming guests from Leatherhead and Three Bridges cricket clubs. Plus pundit Jim Grant will be discussing the local cricket scene and the World Cup.

XIX Squadron Crawley Air Cadets on fundraising mission

XIX(19) Squadron RAF Air Cadets is the local squadron for Crawley who have an active community role and promote the lifestyle of the RAF whilst developing teenagers through skills, experiences and education.

Unfortunately, due to health and safety concerns, the squadron building has had to close which is a huge loss to the cadets. This building is used to host parade nights twice a week, where all the cadets meet to enjoy a range of activities including DofE, flight simulation, fieldcraft and adventure training.

The money that they are looking to raise will help keep the cadet experience going for the 51 Air Cadet teenagers of Crawley and will help provide them with valuable equipment and resources.

SUSY Radio presenter, Joe Exler, spent four years with the squadron therefore having a personal interest in this mission and wanted to find out more:
