A new dedicated vaccination unit has opened its doors at Saxonbrook Medical Practice in Maidenbower in Crawley.

The new addition to the site will allow the Saxonbrook team to administer up to 2,000 vaccinations per day.  The facility means all vaccination clinics will be accommodated separately to avoid disruption to normal GP services.  The purpose built unit has been built in less than three months.

Both Henry Smith, MP for Crawley and Cllr Peter Lamb, Leader of Crawley Borough Council, attended the opening of the new unit on Friday.

Saxonbrook’s vaccination programme is being rolled out by the Alliance for Better Care, a GP federation with practice members in Crawley, Mid Sussex, Horsham and East Surrey.

Rescued horses face uncertain future

Carol with ‘Captain Tom’
A Horley horse sanctuary could be forced to close after having its planning permission refused.

‘Kilmarnock Horse Rescue’ has been taking in sick and unwanted animals for the past 20 years as well being a place for children with disabilities to visit.

The Norwood Hill site had been seeking permission to build removable stables and storage buildings but has been told by Mole Valley Council it cannot go ahead due to it being on green belt land.

Founder Carol Jackson fears closure would leave the animals with an uncertain future, as for many the sanctuary is their last chance.

“The elderly girl Poppy was a very good show-jumper in her day. Unfortunately they get older and they have illnesses so Poppy was retired and she came to us through no fault of her own because she was going to be put to sleep while she was in foal, which is very sad.”

Carol spoke with Susy Radio’s Neil Munday:

Carol says the sanctuary is appealing the decision.

Coronavirus – One Year On

Frontline staff, public services, and volunteers from across Surrey who have managed the Covid-19 response, will unite together today to remember all those who have died on the first anniversary of the country being placed into lockdown.

Organisations that make up Surrey’s Local Resilience Forum – including the emergency services, health trusts, hospitals and councils are standing in solidarity in a one-minute silence.

Steve Owen-Hughes is the Chief Fire Officer and Chair of the Forum who said:
“Due to current restrictions, we are unable to come together physically, but we are encouraging staff from across the partnership, to stop what they are doing and join the nation to remember.”
