Neil reaches dizzy heights at Fire and Rescue Open Day!

Susy Radio’s Neil Munday reached the ‘height’ of his broadcasting career at the recent Surrey Fire and Rescue Open Day.

Neil and the team were broadcasting live from the event, describing all the various activities, demonstrations and events which were taking place, visiting the many stalls and talking to some of the stall holders, representatives of the various services and visitors who were attending.

You can hear everything again here and soak up the atmosphere of the day.

Interviews

Lyndsay from Mole Valley Life explains to Tony Williams all about Lifeline and many other essential safety items available to the elderly to ensure their safety.

Maryam Moghul gets a radio baptism of fire for her first interview, a chat with Reigate Mayor, Cllr Frank Kelly.

The highlight of the day was Neil Munday’s rise to the top of 32 metre fire platform. It’s a good job Neil has a head for heights!

‘Tyra’s Charity’ – Woodfield School, Merstham

Woodfield Secondary School in Merstham caters for the needs of over one hundred secondary school students with learning and associated difficulties.

The school is a registered charity (Charity number: 1026216).

Fifteen year old Tyra has a brother, James, who attends Woodfield School. James has Dravet Syndrome and is 16 years old, but has the mentality of a 4 year old. Tyra says that despite his mental disability he is developing and flourishing because of help received from this ‘amazing school’.

To add her support, Tyra has begun a fundraising project of her own, but at 15yrs old, she is a year too young to register her own charity. She has therefore created her own ‘Just Giving’ page “to try and have events and this JustGiving page so I can have a head start for when I turn 16.”

Tyra adds:
“The main reason I want to raise money for Woodfield is because of the students that attend the school and on a personal level I have met most of them and have been touched by their happiness and friendliness towards everyone despite their different disabilities.

I would love to raise awareness and money for Woodfield so they can have more school trips, a new minibus and more benches.”
Tyra has already managed to raise over £2,000 towards her target of £10,000.

Work on Bewbush Manor Roundabout to begin

Sign for Bewbush Manor Roundabout in Crawley

A safety improvement scheme is set to start soon in West Sussex at a total cost of about £120,000.

Signage and road markings will be improved at Bewbush Manor Roundabout, Crawley, on its eastbound A264 Crawley Road, westbound A2220 Horsham Road, and southbound Sullivan Drive approaches. The works, which were delayed last month, are scheduled to take place from 30 August to 30 September, with temporary lane closures for operational and safety reasons.

Dedicated lane directions will be introduced to formalise turning manoeuvres at Bewbush Manor Roundabout. Those on the eastbound A264 approach will direct Bewbush and Crawley-bound traffic onto the nearside lane, and Pease Pottage and M23-bound traffic directed onto the offside lane. Southbound Sullivan Drive traffic will be directed to the nearside lane for Crawley with both A264 routes accessible from the offside lane.

Vegetation will be cut back on the roundabout’s centre island and the eastbound A264 and westbound A2220 roundabout approaches to improve visibility at the junction and the clarity of road traffic signs.

It is the second phase of work at Bewbush Manor Roundabout following last year’s similar scheme on the northbound A264 Crawley southwestern bypass junction approach.
